Nowadays, people have been dropping stock options in favor of other alternatives like restricted stock units (RSUs). Founder shares, which are also referred to as restricted stock, are granted to the early employees of a startup or company.

After these founder shares have been issued, the company could opt to use RSUs instead. Double trigger RSUs are best for private companies that have not yet gone public.
