An equity plan is a legal document that is usually 20-50 pages long full of jargons and legalese that describes and lays out the terms and conditions of the company’s worker equity system. One of Upstock’s main goals has been to streamline and simplify the equity plan creation and communication process.
The equity plan comes with several other related agreements and legal documents, depending on the company’s equity plan structure. For example, there may be an equity pool creation document that establishes an equity pool, specifies its name, and how many shares are allocated in that pool. There would also be award agreements where each worker will have their own equity award plan that specifies the conditions for the equity to vest, how much stocks would vest, and so on.
